Overseas media news on December 5, Italy's Minister of Enterprise and Manufacturing AdolfoUrso signed a new decree that will provide 320 million euros in energy subsidies to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to invest on their own in the development and utilization of renewable energy sources, with the aim of increasing the self-generation and self-consumption rate of photovoltaic or small-scale wind power, in order to reduce the dependence on foreign energy sources. The subsidies cover, among other things, customer-side energy storage systems.
It is reported that the policy is funded by 320 million euros, of which 40% will be provided to the eight regions of Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Molise, Puglia, Sardegna and Sicilia, and the other 40% will be reserved for micro and small enterprises.
The range of subsidies includes: 30% for medium-sized companies; 40% for micro and small enterprises; the amount of subsidies for energy storage will be 30%; in addition, 50% of the subsidies will be used for energy diagnostic planning.
In addition, according to the subsidy rules, it is required that the project investment is not less than 30,000 euros and not more than 1 million euros and is related to a single production unit of the developing entity.
And the document also specifies that the scope of the subsidy is the purchase, installation and commissioning of new tangible assets by the user from the date of submission of the subsidy application, in particular photovoltaic or small wind installations that meet the relevant requirements, including: digital equipment and technology strictly in line with the operation of the plant, energy storage systems for generating energy; energy diagnostic systems required for planned interventions; and so on.
Not long ago, Terna, the Italian grid operator, announced Italy's installed energy resources, and the data show that as of October 31, 2024, Italy has commissioned 38.8GW of PV power projects and 12.9GW of wind power projects, with a total of 75.2GW of hydroelectricity, and there are about 707,000 energy storage projects, with a total installed energy storage capacity of 5,186MW/ 11,783MWh, of which 864MW are utility-scale energy storage systems, which also means that the installed capacity of user-side energy storage systems in Italy accounts for about 83% or more.
In January-October 2024, Italy added 6,042 MW of installed renewable energy capacity, including 5,482 MW of photovoltaic, an increase of more than 30% year-on-year compared to 2023, while 616 MW of storage systems were connected to the grid in the new storage projects added in the ten months.
