First Wind will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for local officials and community members to mark the completion of construction and the start of commercial operations of its 14 MW (AC) Warren, Massachusetts solar project.
The ribbon cutting ceremony will include Maeve Vallely Bartlett, Secretary of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, as well as state officials, community members, and representatives from First Wind. Located at three sites in the Town of Warren, the solar project is the second-largest in Massachusetts.
The majority of the power generated from the project will be delivered to the Lowell, Mass., and Medical Center campuses of the University of Massachusetts, saving the school more than $1 million in annual energy costs. The Town of Warren will receive $130,000 in annual tax benefits from First Wind, and the Town of Orange will realize annual savings by receiving a smaller portion of the energy generated through a net metering agreement. First Wind also recently celebrated the start of commercial operations at its 3 MW (AC) project in nearby Millbury, Mass.
