Gotion High-tech Advances Solid-State Batteries, Expands Capacity, and Enters Small Power Market
2025-08-19 14:48

As one of China’s long-established players in lithium battery manufacturing, Gotion High-tech has recently attracted wide attention with a string of positive developments following its RMB 1 billion investment in Wuhu and the introduction of state-owned capital into its subsidiary. The latest news spans breakthroughs in solid-state batteries, capacity expansion, and entry into new markets.

Launch of 2 GWh All-Solid-State Battery Mass Production Line

On August 13, in response to an investor’s inquiry about its solid-state battery capacity, Gotion High-tech announced on its interactive platform:

“The company has officially launched the design work for the first-generation 2 GWh all-solid-state battery mass production line.”

On the same day, replying to a question regarding the yield rate of its pilot solid-state line, Gotion stated:

“The pilot line for all-solid-state batteries has achieved a cell yield rate of 90%.”

In practice, once the yield rate of power batteries reaches 90% or higher, large-scale production becomes viable; when it exceeds 99%, conditions are highly favorable for cost-efficient mass production.

This statement signals that Gotion’s solid-state battery program has entered a new stage, positioning it at the forefront of the industry.

At its Global Technology Conference 2025 (May 16–17), Gotion presented details of its much-anticipated “Jinshi” all-solid-state battery: the first experimental line was successfully completed with 100% in-house development, a designed capacity of 0.2 GWh, and yield rates of up to 90% thanks to advanced precision coating and other key technologies.

Dr. Pan Ruijun, head of Gotion’s Jinshi all-solid-state R&D, revealed at the event that:

“The core equipment of this line has reached 100% domestic localization, and road testing has already begun.”

Earlier information indicated that Gotion’s solid-state team had achieved material-level breakthroughs through nano-structured solid electrolytes, ultra-thin coated single-crystal cathodes, and 3D mesoporous silicon anodes. This enabled an energy density of 350 Wh/kg, providing a driving range of up to 1,000 km on a single charge.

Recent updates show continued innovation in materials: sulfide electrolyte ionic conductivity improved by 60%, air stability significantly enhanced, and cathode/anode specific capacities further increased. As a result, Jinshi batteries have achieved 150% higher single-cell capacity, 90% lower pre-tightening force, and outstanding safety performance, passing rigorous nail penetration, thermal chamber, external short-circuit, overcharge, and compression tests.

NEV Validation & Energy Storage R&D Base Tops Out

According to Yatai Construction, on August 11, the topping-out ceremony was held for Gotion’s New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Validation and Energy Storage R&D Base.

The project, invested by Hefei Gotion Xuanyi New Energy Co., Ltd. (hereafter “Xuanyi New Energy”), is located at the intersection of Huayuan Avenue and Liaoning Road in the Baohe Economic Development Zone of Hefei, Anhui Province. It covers 126.7 mu (approx. 84,500 m²), with a total investment of around RMB 1 billion and a planned floor area of 180,000 m².

The project will house Gotion’s validation center and energy storage settlement center. The validation center is an expansion of the existing base, enabling testing and validation across more than 450 parameters aligned with nearly 70 domestic and international standards. The storage settlement center will handle Gotion’s businesses in large-scale storage, C&I storage, supplementary power for NEVs, BMS, and storage operation management.

Xuanyi New Energy was established on January 29, 2024, under Gotion Holdings, focusing on NEV validation and energy storage R&D.

Entry into the Trillion-Yuan Small Power Battery Market

Also on August 11, Gotion High-tech’s subsidiary Hefei Gotion JTM Battery Technology Co., Ltd. (hereafter “Gotion JTM”) signed a cooperation agreement with Lujiang High-Tech Zone, marking Gotion’s official entry into the small power battery market, positioned as the company’s “third growth engine.”

According to Gotion JTM Chairman Xu Xingwu, China has over 400 million electric two-wheelers, yet lithium battery penetration remains below 10%. The transition from lead-acid to lithium is creating a trillion-yuan market. In addition, emerging applications such as low-altitude aerial vehicles, electric ships, and construction machinery are driving new demand for small power batteries globally.

Gotion Chairman Li Zhen further noted that daily electricity consumption by NEVs in China is only 330 million kWh, representing just 1.2% of national daily electricity use. This underpins vast opportunities for energy storage batteries. He added that if China’s daily electricity demand were shifted by two hours, energy storage demand would exceed the terawatt-hour level, with small power batteries becoming Gotion’s “third growth driver” after power and storage batteries.

Records show that Gotion JTM was established on August 7, 2025, with registered capital of RMB 100 million, led by Xu Xingwu as legal representative. Its business scope includes battery manufacturing and sales, battery parts production and sales, battery leasing, centralized fast-charging stations, sales of power tools, recycling technology R&D, energy recovery systems, and new materials R&D.

Gotion High-tech holds a 65% stake in Gotion JTM, while 25% is held by Hefei JTM Equity Investment Partnership.
