PV Taiwan exhibition, the greatest annual event to Taiwanese PV industry held in Nangang, Taipei City from Oct. 12 to 14, 2016, was opened following a hustle and bustle opening ceremony. Mr. Chien-jen Chen, Vice President of Taiwan, arrived at the opening ceremony and re-emphasized the government’s commitment to push forward green energy industry in Taiwan. The administration is going to collaborate with the industry in land, capital, and regulations, in order to promote solar power industry domestically.

PV Taiwan tradeshow officially marked its 10th anniversary this year. According to market trend and demand, PV Taiwan newly set smart energy and storage pavilion.

“In order to pertain to Taiwan government’s New Southbound Policy, TAITRA has proactively invited guests from India and Southeast Asia's states to PV Taiwan and has held hundreds of one-on-one business meetings this year,” said Mr. Francis Kuo-Hsin Liang, Chairman of Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA). “PV Taiwan 2016 will be a good platform for business talks.”

Dr. Peng-heng Chang, Chairman & CEO of Motech Industries Inc, described PV Taiwan as a platform for solar power industry to communicate with one another, to look back at the past and to predict the future. He is also the Committee Chairman of Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI), PV Taiwan's co-organizer, and the chairman of Taiwan Photovoltaic Industry Association (TPVIA) . Chang has devoted himself to the solar energy industry for many years.

“In the past, Taiwan focused on manufacturing PV products,” stated Chang on the opening ceremony. “In contrast, our new government's policies have encouraged more companies to venture on the downstream sector of solar power industry. I appeal to the government for closer cooperation with the PV industry, in terms of capital, connecting PV power plants to the grid, and land issues.”

Chang added that he hoped government and the industry to work together to solve related issues and move the industry forward.

Kitty Wong, general manager of Expo Union Corporation stated, the concept of "Green life and sustainable development" will revolutionize our lives. She not only called upon the public to pay more attention to green energy, but also hoped that government will persist with developing green energy.

Vice president re-stressed goals: 1.52GW in two years, and 20GW by 2025

Vice President Mr. Chien-jen Chen pointed out on the opening ceremony that the government's goal of getting rid of using nuclear power by 2025 has never changed. The government will use solar PV energy and offshore wind power as the two major pillars to achieve the goal. Chen explained, the goal of “no-nukes” does not only mean go nuclear-free, but also means to attract new investment and drive new industry growth. Meanwhile, “the goal will integrate Taiwan's existing technology capabilities and make green energy industry into the next-generation crucial industry. Through driving renewable energy, Taiwan's energy independence rate will be improved,” added Chen.

Vice President Chen re-stated the government’s determination to developing green energy industry.

Vice President Chen claimed, the goal of 20GW of PV installation in next 10 years is estimated to generate NT $1.2 trillion market value. The government will continue integrating the efforts from all sides and will aim to make Taiwan the Asia-pacific green energy innovation research and development center.

Chen highlighted again the short-term goal of 1.52GW of solar installations in two years. It will cover 910MW of rooftop projects and 610MW of ground-mounted projects. Regarding to the rooftop systems, the installation growth will be started from government-owned buildings. In the same time, the vice president announced that the government will give an all-out effect to solve issues in land, capital, and regulations. The administration would like to improve the willingness for PV installation by making new laws and regulations.

"The government will work with the industry to develop photovoltaic industry," proclaimed the vice president. The government plans to set up Shalun Green Energy Technology Park in Shalun, Tainan for serving as the core of industry cluster as well as for providing functions such as system integration, testing and new technology's trial mass production.
