On September 22, according to a report by Cailian Press, an insider at Li Auto revealed that Li Auto's solid-state batteries are expected to be capable of small-batch vehicle integration in 2027 or 2028.
Liu Zhimin, Senior Director of Power Battery at Li Auto, stated that Li Auto is currently continuing to advance its technological layout for solid-state batteries. There are already multiple related projects in the development stage, and prototype validation for solid-state batteries has been completed on eyewear products. However, to achieve mature mass production for whole vehicles and ensure the certainty of the user experience, it is estimated that approximately five more years will be needed.
Liu Zhimin pointed out that current solid-state batteries still face challenges in simultaneously meeting the requirements for service life, charging performance, and cost. A relevant executive from Li Auto also previously mentioned that, from the perspective of technological maturity, there is still a certain distance before solid-state batteries can achieve large-scale mass production.
Since the beginning of this year, Li Auto has accelerated the layout of its in-house battery research and development, announcing in September that its self-developed batteries will gradually cover its full range of vehicle models. Currently, Li Auto's self-developed batteries have already been equipped on models such as the L8, L6, and i8, and the application scope will continue to be expanded in the future. Among them, the new generation Li MEGA is planned to make the switch after the production ramp-up of the self-developed 5C ternary lithium battery is completed, while the 2026 Li i6 model is planned to be equipped with the self-developed 5C battery and the self-developed Mach chip.
In September of this year, Li Auto further intensified its layout within the battery industry chain. The company's cooperation with Sunwoda EVB continues to deepen, and it made a strategic investment of 2.65 billion yuan into Sunwoda EVB. Li Auto stated that such investments are primarily centered around technological and strategic cooperation.
Sunwoda itself is also advancing the industrialization of solid-state batteries. In August 2026, Sunwoda disclosed in its semi-annual report that the company's solid-state battery sample line has completed end-to-end integration. It plans to launch pilot production within the year and simultaneously advance the validation of full-size batteries. At present, its solid-state battery products are in the validation and sampling test stage; meanwhile, its 320Wh/kg and 360Wh/kg semi-solid-state battery products have already achieved small-batch mass production and have been applied in scenarios such as low-altitude aircraft.
In April of this year, Xu Zhongling, Dean of the Central Research Institute of Sunwoda EVB, revealed that the company had integrated a 0.2GWh solid-state battery sample line, with plans to complete the development of full-size batteries in 2026 to meet the requirements for vehicle integration validation.
