Four Major Battery Projects Reach New Milestones as Lithium and Sodium-Ion Supply Chains Accelerate Expansion
2026-07-31 14:14

Recently, several key projects across the battery industry chain have made significant headway. From Shanghai Pret Composites’ subsidiary planning a 500 million yuan upgrade for energy storage lines and the first completion acceptance phase of an 80 GWh lithium battery base in Xiamen, to the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approvals and public disclosures for sodium-ion battery projects by Tongxing Haosheng and Guangxi Ningfu, the pace of capacity expansion, upgrading, and transformation in the battery sector continues to accelerate.

Pret-Haisida Energy Storage Upgrades Prismatic Battery Production Line

On the evening of July 29, Shanghai Pret Composites Co., Ltd. announced that its controlled indirect subsidiary, Jiangsu Haisida Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd., plans to invest approximately 500 million yuan to construct an upgrade and transformation project for large prismatic advanced battery production lines.

Located in the Qidong Economic Development Zone in Jiangsu Province, the project will utilize existing plant facilities and supporting infrastructure. By introducing intelligent manufacturing systems and advanced battery production equipment, it will upgrade existing lines and add two new high-speed automated production lines.

Upon completion, the project is expected to add an annual production capacity of 6 GWh of high-performance prismatic lithium-ion batteries. The lines will be compatible with producing cells of various specifications—including 85Ah, 100Ah, 120Ah, 314Ah, and 392Ah—primarily serving energy storage systems (ESS). Construction is scheduled to begin in July 2026, with completion and operational launch targeted for June 2027.

EIA Approval Granted for 10,000-Ton Sodium-Ion Cathode Material Project

On July 28, the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the project featuring an annual capacity of 10,000 tons of sodium-ion battery cathode materials and supporting facilities—invested by Tongxing Haosheng (Yibin) New Energy Technology Co., Ltd.—received official regulatory approval.

Located in the Wangchang Industrial Park of Pingshan Town, Pingshan County, Yibin City, Sichuan Province, the project is invested and constructed by Tongxing Haosheng, a controlled subsidiary of Tongxing Technology (Tongxing Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd.).

According to previous disclosures, Tongxing Technology planned to construct Phase I of a 20,000-ton annual capacity sodium-ion cathode material project in Pingshan County with a total investment of around 500 million yuan. Within Phase I, the first stage of 10,000 tons of capacity is expected to start production in October 2026 and reach full capacity in December 2026. The project covered by this EIA approval corresponds to this initial stage of Phase I.

First Batch of 80 GWh High-Performance Lithium Battery Base Project Passes Acceptance

On July 27, the first batch of the high-performance lithium battery base project, invested by Xiamen Torch Group and constructed on its behalf by Torch Development Company, completed its final completion inspection and acceptance.

Located in the Dongliao Area of Xiamen Tongxiang High-tech City, the project represents a planned total investment of 16 billion yuan. It focuses primarily on constructing standardized cell workshops as well as supporting production and living infrastructure.

The overall project plans to build fully automated, intelligent power battery production lines with a total capacity of 80 GWh, employing advanced smart lithium battery manufacturing processes and equipment. The successful acceptance of the first batch provides a solid foundation for subsequent operational launch.

10 GWh Sodium-Ion Battery Project Enters EIA Pre-Approval Public Notice

Recently, the EIA documents for the 10 GWh Sodium-Ion Battery Project at the Fuxin Battery Industrial Park entered the pre-approval public notice stage. Invested and constructed by Guangxi Ningfu New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., the project is located in Qingxiu District, Nanning City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

With a total investment of 1.5 billion yuan and covering a total land area of approximately 108,600 square meters, the project mainly involves building cell production lines, capacity grading workshops, batching warehouses, raw material warehouses, and power stations, along with supporting environmental facilities for wastewater/exhaust gas treatment and temporary solid waste storage.

Once fully operational, the project will achieve an annual capacity of 10 GWh of sodium-ion batteries. Additionally, it includes a 10,000-ton annual NMP recycled solution purification line and a 2,750-ton annual carbon nanotube (CNT) conductive slurry production line, both producing supporting materials primarily intended for the project’s internal sodium-ion battery production.
