On August 18th, according to Saudi Gulf Projects, Saudi Electricity Company has awarded contracts for battery energy storage system (BESS) projects with a total capacity of 1GW/4GWh to Xiamen HiTHIUM Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd. and Saudi-based Alfanar Projects. Among them, HiTHIUM is mainly responsible for equipment supply and operation of the projects, while Alfanar Projects takes charge of the construction work.
Specifically:
Supply of battery energy storage system for Tabuk – 1 BSP: Xiamen HiTHIUM Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd., with a contract value of 671.7 million Saudi Riyals (approximately 179 million US dollars);
Supply of battery energy storage system for Hail 2 BSP: Xiamen HiTHIUM Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd., with a contract value of 686.35 million Saudi Riyals (approximately 183 million US dollars);
Construction of Tabuk – 1 BSP: Alfanar Projects, with a contract value of 436.464 million Saudi Riyals (approximately 116 million US dollars);
Construction of Hail 2 BSP: Alfanar Projects, with a contract value of 441.013 million Saudi Riyals (approximately 118 million US dollars);
Maintenance of both Tabuk – 1 BSP and Hail 2 BSP: Xiamen HiTHIUM Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd., with a contract value of 6.1 million Saudi Riyals (approximately 1.6257 million US dollars).
These projects are mainly located in Tabuk Province in northwestern Saudi Arabia and Hail Province in the central region. Previously, in April, SEC announced the bidding situation for the projects, and HiTHIUM participated in the quotation.
It is understood that HiTHIUM announced in October last year the establishment of a joint venture, Hithium MANAT, with MANAT (founded by Nabilah AlTunisi, former chief engineer of Saudi Aramco), to build a 5GWh BESS factory.
