800MW solar module plant opens in Nigeria
2025-07-11 15:28

Nigerian engineering and manufacturing firm Tranos has launched construction of a solar module plant with an annual capacity of 800MW in the country's Ogun State, with the first 400MW line expected to be operational within 15 to 18 months and the overall project scheduled to be fully commissioned in 2027, it has been announced.

In addition, Nigeria announced a series of PV manufacturing investment projects. In May, China's Hunan Red Sun and IRS Group announced a partnership to build a 600MW module plant, while in March another company, Oando Clean Energy, announced the launch of a joint 1.2GW module assembly and recycling project.

As demand for PV grows, Nigeria has recently proposed banning the import of solar modules to boost local manufacturing capacity. However, the ban has been put on hold due to the current difficulties in meeting market demand with local production capacity.
