According to data released by the German Federal Network Authority (Bundesnetzagentur), Germany's installed solar PV capacity declined in August to just 790MW after more than a dozen consecutive months of GW growth, well below the 1.47GW recorded in August of this year (previously announced as 1.404GW, updated this time to 1.47GW) and the 1.37GW for the same period in 2023.

In August, EEG-funded rooftop solar additions amounted to 518.9MW, down from 919.4MW the previous month; 154.4MW of ground-mounted PV plants were installed through tenders won during the month, again much lower than July's 371.6MW; and 76.4MW were installed in open space projects, compared to 109.6MW the previous month.

Between January and August 2024, Germany added 10.179GW of new PV capacity, a cumulative total of more than 93GW. 1.3GW of onshore wind, 635.1MW of offshore wind, and 97.6MW of biomass were added during the same period, and the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) said the monthly average of new PV installations in September and beyond would need to reach 1.602GW in order to meet the government's target of 215GW of cumulative installations by 2030. The government has set a target of 215GW of cumulative installations by 2030.
