France adds over 1GW of new PV installations in Q2

French grid operator Enedis has released data on new PV systems added in the country in the second quarter of 2024. Between April and June this year, PV developers installed 1,013 MW of PV systems, up from 965 MW in the first quarter of the year, while in the record-breaking first and second quarters of 2023, PV developers installed 691 MW and 747 MW of PV systems, respectively.

France's energy additions in the first half of the year also included 18 MW of energy storage systems and 710 MW of captive energy facilities, including 336 MW in the first quarter and 373 MW in the second quarter. most of the captive energy facilities (650 MW) sell excess power to the grid.

France added around 1GW of PV systems in the first quarter of the year. by comparison, the country added 984MW of PV systems in the fourth quarter of 2023 and 639MW of PV systems in the first quarter of 2023, the French Ministry of Ecological Transformation said.

In 2023, France added 3.2GW of installed PV system capacity, compared to 2.68GW in 2022 and 2.57GW in 2021.As of March 2024, the cumulative installed capacity of PV systems installed in France amounted to 21.1GW, with approximately 20.3GW in metropolitan France, and 0.8GW in Corsica and overseas territories combined.
