The most iconic energy industry gathering in Taiwan, Energy Taiwan 2021—which was supposed to be held between October 27 and 29 at TaiNEX 2—has been postponed. On September 9, the organizers, SEMI and TAITRA, announced that the show has been put off to December 8–10.

Energy Taiwan serves as a platform for comprehensive renewable energy policy-making and exchanges of related technologies. The event comprises four theme pavilions, namely PV Taiwan, Wind Energy Taiwan, Smart Storage Taiwan and HFC (hydrogen fuel cell) Taiwan. This year, a featured pavilion is added to Energy Taiwan 2021 along with international forums on five major renewable energy topics, where professionals of related industries can discuss renewable energy trends to seize the trillion-dollar business opportunity behind.

According to the latest survey compiled by the Industrial Technology Research Institute, the value of PV, solar energy and energy storage markets worldwide grew nearly 21% in 2020, exceeding $279.4 billion. By 2023, the total value of these markets is likely to hit $341.2 billion. In Taiwan, the government’s agenda to establish 27GW renewable energy sources by 2025 will create 240,000 new jobs with a business opportunity worth about NT$2.2 trillion ($79 billion).

Terry Tsao, the global chief marketing officer and president of SEMI Taiwan, said that transforming to net zero is inevitable and more than 120 countries have announced their plans to achieve such goal by 2025. Multinational companies have also joined the RE100 initiative and pledged net zero emissions. Energy Taiwan 2021 per se is a perfect platform assisting the renewable energy industry to develop novel technologies and establish a whole-new business model, which will also help companies strive for a leading position in such a new global trend.

Leonor F. M. Lin, president and CEO of TAITRA, specified that transforming to net zero and adopting renewable energy have become a crucial issue facing big companies. TAITRA, in addition to dedicating itself to foreign trade promotion in Taiwan, pays close attention to measures affecting exports, including carbon taxes and environmental protection policies. By holding exhibitions such as Energy Taiwan, TAITRA continues to promote the application of renewable energy, connecting businesses to international markets and helping them explore new opportunities.

In recent years, demand for renewable energy in businesses has increased, stimulating growth of the renewable energy industry. Through collaboration, related companies have expanded the industry’s ecosystem in Taiwan. Compared with previous events, Energy Taiwan 2021 is bigger with 30% more exhibitors. More than 635 enterprises will attend this energy gathering, including URE, Ysolar, TSEC, Win Win Precision Technology, Power Master, Taipower’s Department of Renewable Energy, Foxwell Energy, J&V, Taya, Star Energy, Swancor Renewable Energy, Ørsted, CIP, Formosa 3, wpd, Hitachi Power Grids Taiwan, Jan De Nul, Hung Hua Construction, Hsin Kuang Steel, Sun Rise E&T, Leader, Billion Watts and Sysgration. The name list demonstrates that Energy Taiwan is an international event attracting iconic players in the energy sector.

With the existing energy categories, Energy Taiwan 2021 features an additional “Hydropower, Biomass, Ocean Energy” pavilion aiming to encourage efficient energy use. Further, recent global trends have prompted businesses to care about environmental, social and governance issues. Accordingly, the organizers will also add the Green Finance and Renewable Energy Purchasing pavilions, corresponding with Taiwan’s first renewable energy transaction this year. The annual festival serves as the most integrated platform for energy companies and helps create a comprehensive economic system in the energy sector.
