Watch SolarWindow Generate Electricity on Glass!

SolarWorld Technologies, Inc. has released its first-ever video for the long-developed solar innovation – SolarWindow™, a new technology for generating electricity through solar panels installed as transparent windows.

In the video, SolarWindow demonstrates how the transparent glass generates clean electricity and how it integrates with buildings. The company has tested the technology at skyscrapers, tall towers and commercial buildings in the U.S. – and the electricity consumption of commercial buildings represents more than one-third of the nation’s electricity.

“Today’s demonstration marks the Kitty Hawk moment for our SolarWindow™ technology,” said John A. Conklin, President and CEO, SolarWindow Technologies, Inc. “It’s a great way to see how, exactly, we can turn the countless acres of glass on offices, hotels, and commercial buildings into clean power generators.”

SolarWindow™ modules can be applied to all four sides of tall towers, generating electricity using natural, shaded, and even artificial light. As a result, SolarWindow™ modules outperform today’s solar by as much as 50-fold when modeled for installation on a 50-story building. A single installation of the company’s SolarWindow™ technology is calculated to avoid 2.2 million miles of vehicle pollution, at least 12-times more than today’s solar systems on building rooftops; and could reduce carbon emissions equivalent to 770 acres of forest.

The technology has achieved financial payback within one year according to calculations independently validated by the University of North Carolina’s Energy Performance and Infrastructure Center.
