Current solar cell generation with increased performance

Success through continuous research and development

Thanks to the targeted and continued development of various manufacturing processes, Sunways has been able to further increase the efficiency of its series-produced solar cells. Outstanding peak values of 19.4 percent were measured for monocrystalline solar cells made from standard material. Efficiency refers to the percentage of radiant energy that is converted into electrical energy. Following the optimisation of the current cell design, the solar cell generation “18+”, Sunways solar cells made from monocrystalline and multicrystalline silicon are now even more efficient, resulting in increased current yields in solar modules. A solar module comprising 60 solar cells with an efficiency of 19.4 percent generates an output of around 270 watts.

This peak efficiency of 19.4 percent measured at Sunways Production GmbH in Arnstadt has been confirmed by the photovoltaic calibration laboratory of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE CalLab) in Freiburg/Germany in independent measurements. Thanks to the targeted improvement of various sub-processes that are part of the overall solar cell manufacturing process, key solar cell properties have been optimised. These include the front metallisation and surface structure. This has resulted in increased light yields by reducing shading and reflection losses. Series production processes for multicrystalline Sunways solar cells have likewise been optimised, with efficiency now reaching up to 17.9 per cent.

These new peak values underline the high technological expertise of the Sunways Group. Sunways is constantly driving the improvement of existing products and the development of innovative solutions by conducting intensive research. In doing so, its developers rely on a large network of leading research institutes in the field of photovoltaics.
