2011-06-29 14:46

EDF EN Canada Inc. has obtained the "Decret" from the Government of Quebec authorizing the construction and operation of the 80 MW Saint-Robert-Bellarmin wind project. The project, located in the municipality of Saint-Robert-Bellarmin of the MRC du Granit, will generate green energy to power the equivalent of over 18,000 Quebec homes.

"The reception and support from the community of Saint-Robert-Bellarmin and the MRC du Granit have largely contributed to the success of this project. We extend our gratitude to the Quebec Government departments for their diligence to develop this project in an "accelerated" mode, allowing Saint-Robert-Bellarmin wind project to achieve commercial operation as early as 2012. The construction activities are expected to begin in the next few weeks," said Stéphane Boyer, Vice-President-Quebec for EDF EN Canada Inc.

With an investment of close to $200 million, the project will create about one hundred jobs during the construction phase, and five permanent operation and maintenance jobs.

Turbine manufacturer REpower will supply 40 wind turbines rated at 2 MW each with a significant amount of content manufactured locally. LM Wind will supply the blades from their Gaspesie plant; towers will be produced at the Marmen Matane plant; and SEG Woodward will contribute the electrical converters from New Richmond.

EDF EN Canada Inc. and Borea Construction signed a limited notice to proceed for the construction of the Saint-Robert-Bellarmin wind project. According to the terms of this agreement, Borea Construction will begin the study and preparatory work for construction.
