Canada plans to impose tariffs on Chinese photovoltaic products

On September 11, the Canadian Ministry of Finance announced that it is considering imposing additional taxes on key minerals, batteries and components, solar products and semiconductors imported from China, and will conduct a 30-day public consultation for this purpose.

The Canadian Ministry of Finance reportedly said in a statement that Chinese producers are benefiting from so-called "overcapacity policies."

Last month, Canada announced that it would impose additional tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, steel and aluminum products. A spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said at the time that Canada's disregard for objective facts, disregard for WTO rules, and going against the historical trend was a typical protectionist approach that not only undermined China-Canada economic and trade relations and harmed the interests of Canadian companies and consumers, but also did not help Canada's green transformation process and the world's ability to respond to climate change. China is strongly dissatisfied with this and firmly opposes it.

The spokesperson said that China urges Canada to respect objective facts, abide by WTO rules, immediately correct its wrong practices and not politicize economic and trade issues. China will take all necessary measures to firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.
