SOLON, a European photovoltaic module manufacturer and system provider, has been appointed by Rockspring Property Investment Managers to construct and deliver a turnkey solar park on the site of a former RAF airfield at Westcott Venture Park, Buckinghamshire. The site is expected to be one of the few large scale solar arrays to be completed before the proposed feed-in tariff change in August 2011.
The solar park with a peak power of around 408 kilowatts, will be positioned and anchored through the existing concrete runway of a 1,4 hectare area, which has been turned into an industrial park. The site work started this week under the guidance of renewable energy company Ownergy Plc.
As the EPC contractor, SOLON is responsible for the planning, delivery and construction of the solar park. SOLON will subsequently take over the maintenance and operation of the power plant and sub-contract some of this vital work back to the facility management of the business park.
Richard Johnson, UK Country Manager for SOLON SE said “We are very pleased to promote our proven solar technologies by supporting local companies to develop renewable energy sources for electricity generation.” Rod Mordey, European Director of Rockspring PIM states, "“The appointment of SOLON to build this flagship project, which is one of the first solar parks in the UK, underlines our commitment to sustainability and will greatly assist with our long term goal of powering Westcott Venture Park with 100% renewable energy.””
