Vestas has received an order for 20 units of the V82-1.65 MW wind turbine for the Vellappaneri Wind Farm project in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The contract comprises supply and commissioning of the turbines, a VestasOnline® Business SCADA system as well as a 10 year service and maintenance agreement. Delivery is scheduled to start during the fourth quarter of 2010, and the project will be completed during the second quarter of 2011.
The order has been placed by Beta Wind Farm Pvt. Ltd, which is a 100 per cent subsidiary of Orient Green Power Company Limited (OGPL). The Orient Green Power currently operates 152.6 MW in wind and is planning to add another 300 MW in wind in 2011. This 33 MW wind farm in Tamil Nadu is Orient’s first project with Vestas.

Vestas has been active in India for more than 10 years, and as per 30 June 2010, Vestas had installed more than 2,300 MW of wind power in India. The first V82-1.65 MW wind turbines were installed in Kongalnagaram, Coimbatore in 2004. Since then, Vestas has installed around 500 V82-1.65 MW turbines in India.
