TrendForce’s China Energy Storage Industry Tender Database (September 2026 Report) shows that China saw 72.84 GWh of domestic energy storage tenders in September 2026, with standalone energy storage maintaining a dominant position. The awarded volume exceeded 56 GWh; awarded EPC project volume hit a year-to-date high. Overall awarded prices for energy storage systems declined, with the weighted average price for 4-hour systems at RMB 0.53/Wh.
September Energy Storage Tender Volume: 72.84 GWh
According to incomplete statistics from TrendForce, newly added domestic energy storage tender volume reached 24.36 GW / 72.84 GWh in September 2026, rising 87% and 93% year-on-year respectively. On a month-on-month basis, power capacity grew 10% while energy capacity fell 4%.
- New EPC tender volume stood at 20.51 GW / 59.99 GWh, up 16% and 6% month-on-month. Shanxi led with 9.8 GWh of tender volume, while Inner Mongolia, Ningxia and Xinjiang each recorded tender volumes above 5 GWh.
- New energy storage system tender volume was 3.84 GW / 12.85 GWh, down 14% and 34% month-on-month, with a notable drop in group procurement/framework tender projects.
Standalone Energy Storage Accounts for 80% of Tenders
By tender type, standalone energy storage tenders totalled 21.32 GW / 61.3 GWh, with strong performance in Ningxia and Shanxi. Framework/group procurement projects recorded 0.9 GW / 3.6 GWh, accounting for 5% of total tenders. Renewable energy paired storage represented 4%, with tender volume rising markedly from the previous month. Commercial & industrial (C&I) energy storage made up 2%, mainly concentrated in Shandong and Sichuan.
September Energy Storage Awarded Volume: 56.07 GWh
Data from TrendForce’s China Energy Storage Industry Tender Database indicates newly added domestic awarded energy storage volume reached 15.87 GW / 56.07 GWh in September 2026. Month-on-month, power capacity increased 19% while energy capacity dropped 26%, and awarded EPC volume set a new year-to-date high.
- New awarded EPC volume hit 14.5 GW / 47.44 GWh, climbing 27% and 34% month-on-month. Thanks to multiple GWh-scale standalone energy storage projects, both Inner Mongolia and Ningxia achieved monthly awarded volumes exceeding 7.5 GWh.
- New awarded volume for energy storage systems was 1.38 GW / 8.62 GWh, a sharp month-on-month decline of 26% and 79%. Lacking support from large group/framework procurement projects this month, awarded energy storage system volume fell both year-on-year and month-on-month.
Weighted Average Price of 4-hour Systems: RMB 0.53/Wh
In September 2026, overall awarded energy storage prices trended down, with notable drops in prices for 2-hour and 4-hour energy storage systems as well as EPC projects.
Awarded prices for 2-hour energy storage systems ranged from RMB 0.53–0.86/Wh, with a weighted average price of RMB 0.60/Wh, down 21% month-on-month.
Awarded prices for 4-hour energy storage systems ranged from RMB 0.52–0.58/Wh, with a weighted average price of RMB 0.53/Wh, falling 12% month-on-month.
Awarded EPC prices for 2-hour energy storage projects ranged from RMB 0.68–1.50/Wh, with a weighted average price of RMB 1.02/Wh, down 10% month-on-month.
Awarded EPC prices for 4-hour energy storage projects ranged from RMB 0.57–1.04/Wh, with a weighted average price of RMB 0.78/Wh, declining 12% month-on-month.
