According to incomplete statistics from TrendForce, in August 2026, China’s energy storage tender volume reached nearly 80 GWh, a sharp month-on-month increase. The awarded volume stood at 75.99 GWh, hitting a new high for the year. Overall awarded prices of energy storage systems rose, with the average price of 4-hour systems at ¥0.6/Wh, while EPC prices showed divergence.
Energy Storage Tender Volume Hit 79.54 GWh in August
TrendForce data shows that China’s newly added energy storage tender volume in August 2026 reached 23.28 GW / 79.54 GWh, up 142% and 121% year-on-year respectively, and rising by 36% and 35% month-on-month.
- Newly added tender volume for EPC projects was 18.89 GW / 60.19 GWh, representing a month-on-month increase of 27% and 35%. There were as many as 17 projects with a capacity of 1 GWh and above. Tender volumes in Ningxia and Inner Mongolia both exceeded 9 GWh.
- The newly added tender volume of energy storage systems reached 4.4 GW / 19.35 GWh, surging 97% and 35% month-on-month. Centralized procurement and framework procurement projects from China Datang Corporation and China National Comprehensive Green Energy Holding Group contributed major increments.
Standalone Energy Storage Dominates with 79% Share
By tender type:
- Standalone energy storage tender volume: 20.45 GW / 67.85 GWh. Inner Mongolia led with 12.6 GWh of tenders.
- Framework/centralized procurement projects: 1.75 GW / 15.22 GWh, accounting for 18%.
- Renewable energy paired storage accounted for 1%, dominated by solar PV paired storage.
- Commercial & industrial (C&I) energy storage took a 1% share, with 3 projects of 100 MWh and above.
Awarded Energy Storage Volume Reached 75.99 GWh in August
TrendForce data indicates China’s newly awarded energy storage volume in August 2026 was 13.32 GW / 75.99 GWh, up 7% and 143% month-on-month. Strong growth from both EPC and energy storage system businesses drove explosive growth in awarded capacity this month.
- Newly awarded EPC projects reached 11.45 GW / 35.35 GWh, a month-on-month rise of 2% and 25%. Xinjiang ranked first with awarded volume of 10.7 GWh.
- Awarded energy storage system projects hit 1.87 GW / 40.64 GWh, jumping 46% and 1232% month-on-month. The 2026 annual centralized procurement of LFP battery energy storage systems by China Energy Engineering Group delivered the core volume increment.
Average price of 4-hour systems: ¥0.6/Wh
In August 2026, overall awarded prices of energy storage systems climbed, while EPC prices diverged.
- 2-hour energy storage systems: awarded price range ¥0.58–0.93/Wh, weighted average price ¥0.75/Wh, up 34% month-on-month.
- 4-hour energy storage systems: awarded price range ¥0.53–0.69/Wh, weighted average price ¥0.6/Wh, up 21% month-on-month.
