According to EnergyTrend, Egypt's Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy announced on June 4 that Gotion High-Tech, together with China Energy Engineering Group (CEEC) and the UAE-based AMEA Power, has signed a major cooperation agreement. The deal includes the construction of a 3GWh energy storage battery manufacturing base and a 1.5GWh standalone energy storage power station in Egypt.
Under the agreement, the three parties will jointly build an energy storage battery manufacturing base in Egypt with a designed annual production capacity of 3GWh, which will specialize in the production of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries for energy storage applications.
Gotion High-Tech will take the lead in providing battery cells, system technologies, equipment supply and production & operation support. China Energy Engineering Group will be responsible for the construction of supporting facilities. AMEA Power will undertake investment, project development and liaison with the Egyptian government.
Preparatory work for the manufacturing base is scheduled to kick off in the third quarter of 2026, and the plant is expected to be completed and put into operation within 18 to 24 months.
In addition, China Energy Engineering Group and AMEA Power have separately signed two EPC general contracting contracts for standalone battery energy storage projects with a combined capacity of 1.5GWh. The two facilities will be built in Zafarana and Benban of Aswan, Egypt, and are projected to be connected to the power grid within 18 months.
