GCL Enters Energy Storage: 200,000-Ton Lithium Iron Phosphate Capacity Enters Commissioning Phase

On the evening of May 17, GCL Technology released its Overall Strategic Transformation Plan, announcing the company's transition from a "single-product champion in granular silicon" to a "globalized, multi-product new energy materials platform." The company's business focus will center around three core materials—silicon, lithium, and carbon—and will further extend into the field of frontier new energy materials.

As the global new energy power and energy storage markets enter the TWh era, cyclical fluctuations in the traditional photovoltaic industry have intensified, making it difficult for a single-product model to sustain long-term growth.

Against this backdrop, GCL Technology has decided to leverage its accumulated expertise in silicon-based materials, high-purity refinement technology, and engineering manufacturing systems to expand into the lithium battery and frontier materials sectors, thereby forging a new growth curve.

In this strategic transformation, lithium iron phosphate (LFP) is positioned by GCL Technology as a core growth engine. The company stated that its adopted "physical iron red method" process features a simplified workflow, low energy consumption, and zero emissions. Furthermore, it holds comprehensive advantages over traditional processes in key metrics such as compaction density, capacity, and voltage plateau, squarely targeting the energy storage and power battery markets.

Currently, GCL Technology's Xinneng project in Leshan has established a production capacity of 200,000 tons of lithium iron phosphate and has entered the production and commissioning phase. The company revealed that the relevant products have passed certifications from mainstream domestic customers in the motive power and energy storage sectors and have achieved batch integration. Moreover, a portion of the planned capacity has already been locked in by advance customer orders.

This also signifies that GCL Technology is further transforming from a photovoltaic silicon materials enterprise into a core materials supplier for energy storage batteries.

At the same time, GCL Technology is advancing its international expansion. The announcement indicates that in the future, within a compliance framework, the company will drive the overseas extension of its integrated industry chain through industrial capital cooperation and the establishment of overseas operating entities. The goal is to build a globalized production capacity and service network to achieve localized supply and carbon footprint traceability.

In terms of resource security, GCL Technology stated that it is actively advancing the global integration and securing of key mineral resources, including lithium, phosphorus, cobalt, and iron, in order to enhance supply chain security and its ability to control raw material costs.
