Entering Energy Storage! Volkswagen's First Energy Storage System to Be Commissioned in Germany!
2025-09-25 10:05

Recently, Volkswagen Group and its global battery manufacturer PowerCo announced that the first large-scale stationary energy storage system (20MW/40MWh) under their charging and energy brand Elli will be officially commissioned at PowerCo's Salzgitter base in Germany in December 2025.

Founded in 2022 and headquartered in Germany, PowerCo is currently constructing battery gigafactories in Salzgitter (Germany), Valencia (Spain) and St. Thomas (Canada), with a designed total production capacity of up to 200GWh.

It is understood that this energy storage system adopts lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs with PowerCo's standard unified cell format, building a scalable platform for energy trading and future grid services.

Through this project, Elli officially enters a new field in the energy value chain, upgrading from a charging service provider to a flexible energy solution supplier. This platform integrates R&D, cell production and stationary energy storage, and serves as a crucial component of Volkswagen Group's battery ecosystem. In the future, it will also cover secondary utilization and recycling, achieving a full-link closed loop.
