On July 7, 2025, Recurrent Energy, the energy subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc., announced that its 1,200 MWh “Papago” energy storage facility in Maricopa County, Arizona, has officially entered commercial operation. The facility is now delivering clean energy to Arizona Public Service (APS), the state’s largest utility company, providing flexible and dispatchable power to support the grid during peak summer demand.

The Papago Energy Storage Project is the first to go online among three renewable energy projects under a partnership agreement signed in 2024 between Recurrent Energy and APS. Collectively, these projects include 1,800 MWh of energy storage and 150 MWac of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity. Once all projects are operational, the energy storage systems will be capable of powering approximately 72,000 homes for four hours, while the solar PV capacity will generate enough electricity annually for about 24,000 households.

e-STORAGE, Canadian Solar’s energy storage subsidiary, is providing end-to-end solutions for these projects—including engineering, procurement, construction management, and long-term operations and maintenance—to ensure high-efficiency performance.

Ismael Guerrero, CEO of Recurrent Energy, stated:"The commissioning of the Papago project marks a key milestone in our strategic collaboration with APS and in strengthening the regional energy infrastructure. We remain committed to driving innovation and building lasting value for our partners and local communities."
