According to Wechat Official Account @EnergyStorageMarket, Contour Global's Quillagua photovoltaic storage plant in Chile, the largest photovoltaic storage plant in Latin America, has successfully completed its commissioning and has been put into operation.

The project has a scale of 221MW/1200MWh, equipped with over 452,000 solar panels and 267 sets of the BYD MC Cube energy storage systems.

The Quillagua Power Station is located on the edge of the Atacama Desert, which boasts the richest solar energy resources globally. The BYD MC Cube energy storage system can enable the Quillagua Power Station to continuously supply power to the grid at a power rate of 200,000 kilowatts for 6.2 hours after sunset, achieving the all-day clean energy supply of "generating electricity during the day and supplying electricity at night".

The project is currently in the preparatory stage of commercial operation and will fulfill a long-term clean energy power purchase agreement (PPA) in the coming weeks, which will not only guarantee a stable supply of solar energy at night, but also put surplus electricity on the market, with the additional incentive of night-time feed-in, to obtain revenues from the electricity market, and improve the economic efficiency of the energy storage system.

In addition, Contour Global is currently constructing another solar energy storage plant in R. de Tarapacá, called “Víctor Jara”, which will also be supplied by BYD Energy Storage and is expected to be operational in the second half of 2025.
