Added 6.4GWh! Authoritative data on energy storage in the first quarter was released!

On May 15, China Electricity Council's“Q1 2024 Electrochemical Energy Storage Plant Industry Statistical Data Brief”was released.

In the first quarter, the 19 enterprise members of the National Electric Power Safety Committee totaled 65 new electrochemical energy storage power stations in operation, with a total power of 2.94GW and a total energy of 6.40GWh. From the regional distribution mainly in Xinjiang, Guangdong, Inner Mongolia, Henan, Hebei, the new power accounted for 66%. From the application scene mainly for new energy distribution storage, independent energy storage, new power accounted for 92%. By the end of the first quarter, a total of 1,023 power stations, with a total power of 27.94GW and a total energy of 57.27GWh, had been put into operation.

In the first quarter, the overall utilization of electrochemical energy storage plants was better than in 2023, with the average daily operating hours improving from 3.12h to 4.16h, the average utilization index improving from 27% to 41%, and the average number of equivalent charge/discharge times per day improving from 0.44 times to 0.63 times.

From the regional point of view, the cumulative total power in operation in more than 500MW provinces, Chongqing, Anhui, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Guizhou, Hubei, Ningxia, Qinghai eight provinces electrochemical energy storage average daily equivalent charge and discharge times higher than the national average. From the application scenario, thermal power distribution storage, industrial and commercial distribution storage operation is more adequate, the average daily equivalent charge and discharge times 1.70 times, 0.89 times.

In the first quarter, the electrochemical energy storage charging capacity of 1,889GWh, discharging capacity of 1,681GWh, an average conversion efficiency of 89%, off-grid capacity of 1,034GWh, on-grid capacity of 857GWh, an average of 83% of the overall efficiency.
