Maserati’s convertible EV GranCabrio Folgore is now confirmed to launch in 2023, and looks like a performance powerhouse according to the statistics recently revealed.

Maserati has a pretty aggressive EV strategy. The manufacturer aims to stop selling all fossil-fuel models by 2030, where all models would be electrified before by 2025, meaning that existing fossil-fuel models will be offered in BEV variations at the same time. Maserati GranTurismo was the first electrified model.

GranCabrio will also be electrified after GranTurismo. As stated by the manufacturer, the battery electric version of GranCabrio Folgore will be available in 2023.

Maserati’s convertible GranCabrio had exited from its product lines since 2019. The classic design is now brought back to the market amidst the opportunity of electrification. (2018 GranCabrio shown in the first photo)

According to the statistics of GranTurismo Folgore, the battery electric sports car has two doors, alongside three motors (one at the front and two at the back) that generate thousands of horsepower, and is capable of 0-100 acceleration in merely 2.7 seconds, with a maximum speed of 320km/hr. Convertibles are usually heavier, and possess worse wind resistance, hence the speed would be slower even if the same power configuration is adopted.

With that being said, one would probably not cruise around in a convertible under a maximum speed of 300km/hr.

Maserati GranCabrio Folgore is expected to be equipped with a 92.5kWh battery unit, as well as an 800V HV circuit architecture, which could generate 745 horsepower. This distinctively positioned two-door four-seater electric convertible sports car has almost no competitors, since Tesla has yet to mass produce its Roadster 2. GranCabrio Folgore is likely to be priced at more than US$200K.

Maserati will commence its electrification process next year under a swift pace, where the BEV version of Grecale, followed by the BEV version of Quattroporte and Levante, would be announced after GranTurismo and GranCabrio, before the ultimate BEV MC20 is scheduled for announcement in 2025.
