BMW Shows Off Flagship i7 for the Very First Time

BMW announced its brand new flagship 7 series today, with two internally configured devices that are bound to wow a lot of tech junkies.

The flagship sedan 7 series of BMW was officially announced today, and all attention is focused on the BEV i7. Without further ado, let’s take a look at its exquisite internal design.

Some might be disappointed when laying their first sight on the lateral side of the vehicle seeing how the sunroof is stuck with a panel in the middle instead of a panoramic design, though the panel is actually a sliding display that is usually stowed at the roof when it is not used as a 31.3” TV.

BMW calls this piece of equipment as the Sky Lounge. The 31.3” BMW theater-grade display has a 32:9 ratio and an 8K resolution that would transform the back seats into a portable movie theater. The 8K solution is naturally powered by 5G, which provides ultra-high bandwidth.

The movie theater for the backsets is the selling point of BMW’s brand new 7 series flagship.

An indescribable sense of satisfaction is achieved when seeing the display slide from the roof to the center of the front seats, while another small gadget at the door of the backseats has further enhanced the tech-savvy BMW i7. The 5.5” display embedded on the car door turns out to be the remote for this portable theater, where passengers can activate the display and select their desired contents through the touch panel. You can also adjust the seats, air-conditioning, shades, and internal lights from through this touch panel.

This is perhaps one of the best functions for car owners with drivers. However, the one thing that is stopping from a lot of buyers obtaining this flagship model may be the front of the car.

Even though beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the kidney grille design that BMW is so proud of has seemed to go off the deep end. The grille of iX looked rather enormous when it was announced last year, and looks particular gigantic when applied on the i7 that has a lower body.

Although BMW has repeatedly emphasized on how the grille design was made with repairable materials, and integrated various sensors for achieving advanced assisted driving, the design is rather peculiar. What is more disappointing is that iX, i4, and i7 do not come with a storage space at the front of the vehicle.

The blacked out coating of the new BMW 7 series fuel model somewhat narrows down the front of the vehicle.

It is apparent from the new 7 series that BMW wishes to inherit traditions and achieve innovation at the same time. Aside from the BEV i7, BMW is also offering the fuel model 760i and the hybrid M760e, and downward compatibility means a common head design that allows ICE placement and ventilation. This is a necessary compromise when both inheritance and innovation are desired, or some may call it a sacrifice.

The i7 xDrive 60 of BMW has a driving range of 600km, with a total output of 544hp from both front and rear motors, and a battery unit of 101.7kWh. The sport version i7 M70 xDrive has a horsepower of 600, and achieves 0 to 100 in less than 4 seconds.

BMW i7 is currently priced from US$120K (approx. NT$3.5 million), though the future price tag in Taiwan should be between NT$5-8 million in accordance with the Benz EQS that had just announced its price in Taiwan.

BMW has been incessant in deployment at the EV field, where the medium-sized battery electric sedan i5 is also likely to be announced during the second half of 2022, while the battery electric MINI Countryman is expected to enter the market next year. Fanatics who are in love with Germany-made automobile can finally choose from more available options.
