South Korean market research institute SNE Research announced the global installed capacity of power batteries among EVs during 2021 on the 7th, where Chinese leading battery supplier CATL occupied a market share of 32.6%, and managed to sit at first place for the fifth consecutive year.

According to the report, Chinese and South Korean companies make up for the list of top ten global businesses occupying the largest installed battery capacity among EVs, where South Korean companies LG Energy Solution, SK On, and Samsung SDI were respectively ranked at second, fifth, and sixth place, while BYD sat at fourth place, and Calb-tech, Gotion High-Tech, Envision AESC, and SVOLT were respectively ranked from the seventh to the tenth place. Panasonic was the only Japanese company that made it onto the list at third place.

CATL had attained 96.7GWh of global installed capacity in power batteries during 2021 alone, which is a growth of 167.5%, while BYD and SVOLT had also respectively grown by 167.7% and 430%. As pointed out by SNE Research, Chinese businesses such as CATL and BYD are surging in market shares thanks to the rapid growth of the Chinese market.

However, CATL’s remarkable performance was not reflected on its share price, which plummeted by 9.94% during intraday trading on the 8th, and was closed at RMB 540.86 under a decrement of 6.66%. The company’s latest market value is at RMB 1.26 trillion.

As reported by Chinese media China Star Market on the 8th, the previous rumor pertaining to CATL consulting US professional institutions on the possibility of becoming a sanction target by the US has been confirmed as false information subsequent to after-hour trading.
