2021-11-04 9:30

Audi Taiwan hosted the announcement for its flagship e-tron GT today. The vehicle had generated a lot of buzz before, and apart from known specifications, Audi had also further revealed several technical details, including the vehicle’s gearbox, all-wheel steering, and air suspension.

Audi e-tron GT is undoubtedly one of the flagship sports cars in the current era, which adopts an identical chassis to that of Porsche electric sports car Taycan, and utilizes the same production line as R8, making it an anticipated star. Aside from known statistics surrounding driving range, charging efficiency, and acceleration, the announcement had disclosed additional details today.

First, the gearbox. E-Tron GT uses the same chassis as Taycan, which means the model is also adopted with a similar transmission design that is a two-speed gear setting. The first gear of e-Tron GT is used for initial acceleration, while the second gear is used for high speed, which ensures a stable output performance for this sports car from low to high speed.

Second, the active air suspension system designed for the sports car driving experience. e-Tron GT is adopted with a three-chamber suspension design, where each independently adjustable chamber spring is processed by the central control component, with a maximum upward and downward adjustment of 20mm and 22mm respectively by pairing with the damping function of the vehicle body, which offers a comfortable driving experience regardless of the road surfaces and conditions.

Third, the all-wheel steering system, where the rear wheels can rotate in the opposite direction at a maximum turn of 2.8° under a low speed of 50km/h, which reduces gyroradius and elevates turnability that increases flexibility of the vehicle. When driving under a high speed of 80km/h or above, the rear wheels would rotate in the same direction, which effectively increases high speed stability and precision in rotation, as well as offers excellent maneuverability at any time.

In order to lower the degree of range anxiety for owners when switching to EVs, Audi has established 23 fast charging locations in Taiwan, and further announced today that the company will integrate with the resources of its partner Porsche by starting from eastern Taiwan under the first collaboration, and Audi owners are now free to use the charging stations of Porsche located at the New Paradiso in Hualien. The two parties will work together in establishing additional universal charging stations in the future.
