Foxconn has recently announced that its affiliated value chain will achieve the target of zero greenhouse gas emission by 2050 based on the stipulated objective of the “Paris Agreement”. Simultaneously, in order to respond to the 3 major targets proposed by the steering committee of the Climate Action 100+ (CA100+), all affiliated factories of Foxconn will continue to reinforce on the governance on climate change, implement actions against greenhouse gas emission, as well as disclose information in accordance with the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), in addition to abide by the carbon emission policy of the local government.

It is reported that the CA100+ is an initiative that has integrated more than 500 investment institutions, and primarily fulfills the three major appeals of: reinforcement of climate change governance, implementation of actions targeted at the greenhouse emission from value chains of enterprises, as well as disclosure of information in accordance with the TCFD, in the hope of conforming to the agreed targets of the Paris Agreement.

Foxconn commented that under the impact of global climate change, the company has made an inventory for the current status of the internal operation, evaluated on the risks and opportunities of climate change, and proposed relevant countermeasures for management, in order to refine on the mechanism used for identifying and evaluating the risks and opportunities of climate change, as well as establish an excellent culture in environmental sustainability for the group.

As clients and the public become increasingly emphasized in low carbon and energy conservation, Foxconn has used a total of 95,202 kWh of clean energy from the establishment of clean energy power generation devices and the purchases of clean energy at various factories in China as of 2019 in terms of the usage on low carbon energy, which equals to an use ratio of 9.93%, and the inspection on greenhouse gas for partial factories has been approved by third parties.

With the hope of achieving a sustainable development, Foxconn has also further established 3 major targets related to green environment protection (in comparison to 2015). First is the target of carbon reduction, for which the company hopes to lower carbon emission by 24% in 2020. Second is the target of 22% energy conservation in 2020. The last one is the target of waste disposal, for which the company wishes to achieve a 100% conversion rate, and an incineration rate of below 10%.

Foxconn emphasizes that the stipulated planning and guidelines in energy conservation and carbon reduction consist of energy conservation technology committees for various factories in propelling a decrease in carbon emission and energy usage, and the participation in the Carbon Disclosure Plan (CDP) will be able to refine on the target of a continuous development in energy conservation and carbon reduction, so as to fulfill the responsibilities in protecting the environment and the earth.

On the other hand, Foxconn had made an external commitment regarding disclosure of TCFD information at the 2019 Corporate Sustainability Report, which is expected for incorporation during the second half of 2020. The company will further lower operation cost through various optimization measures, including the establishment of energy management centers, critical projects of internet and smart energy, construction evaluation of green factories and implementation of carbon reduction projects, and elevation in energy efficiency.
