Regional Markets

1.  Austria

Austria’s new administration has promised to fit 1 million roofs with PV installations by 2030.The Austrian government also pledged to obtain all the electricity from the renewables by 2030 and to make the Alpen country climate neutral by 2040.

2.  Brazil

A 475 megawatt (MW) section of Sao Goncalo solar PV plant—what Enel Group dubbed as South America’s ‘largest’ solar PV plant—has achieved commercial operation.

Another 133 MW section of the project has commenced the construction last August, which will bring the total capacity of the solar farm to 608 MW upon completion. Enel Group has pointed out that the power plant can generate more than 1,200 GWh and reduce more than 860,000 tons of carbon dioxide every year when running on the maximum capacity.

International Energy Agency (IEA) has indicated that the renewable energy has supplied almost 45% of primary energy demand and the large hydropower plants about 80% of the domestic electricity generation was supplied

3.  China

National Development and Reform Commission, National Energy Administration: "Implementation Plan for Strengthening Energy Storage Standardization"

The implementation of the Guiding Opinions on Promoting Energy Storage Technology and Industry Development ([2017] No. 1701) is to be further promoted.

The goal is to form a working mechanism of energy storage standardization, which is guided by the government and participated by multilateral parties.

The mechanism shall promote a more systematic energy storage standard system, strengthen the formulation and revision of key technical standards for energy storage as well as the internationalization of energy storage standards.

4.  Germany

Germany’s last round of PV auction in 2019 witnessed oversubscription yet again: 501.25 MW of total PV capacity awarded to 121 bids, as reported by the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur).

Winning bids ranged from €0.0470 to €0.0620 ($0.052 to $0.069) per kWh. Therefore the average winning bid of this round of auction is at €0.0568 ($0.063), which is 15.92% up from €0.0490 per kWh, the average in the previous round.

5.  India

India’s Pinnacle Industries Limited—a vehicle component manufacturer—and China’s Phylion Battery Company have joined forces and established an assembly unit producing battery packs with Phylion cells and semi-knocked-down (SKD) for electric vehicles, as stated in the pv magazine article.

The Li-ion battery market in India is estimated to expand at a CAGR of roughly 34% over the forecast period of 2019-24.

 

Companies

1. Huawei Technologies & SVOLT Energy

SVOLT Energy signed a contract with Huawei Technologies to build the world's first 5G blockchain platform for renewable energy battery on January 8th.

This will open comprehensive technical cooperation of smart AI factories, BMS smart cloud services, and cloud storage services.  

3. KSTAR

The company and CATL have formed a joint venture specialized in energy storage in Xiapu county, Ningde City in Fujian Province. The joint venture has completed the sale of state-owned land use rights via tenders, auctions or listings at the moment.

The planning of plant layout, production line and more is underway. It is planned that the joint venture could start operation and production this year.

The photovoltaic and energy storage products accounted for 30% of the company's overall revenue in 2018.

4. SPIC & CK Infrastructure Holdings

The subsidiary of State Power Investment Corporation Limited (“SPIC”) Jilin Electric Power has signed a Letter of Intent for Cooperation on the Integrated Smart Energy Project in Hekou, Tonghua County with Li Ka-shing’s CK Infrastructure Holdings which facilitates the start of the project.

The two parties plan to establish a joint venture to invest in the construction and operation of Phase I of the project (including but not limited to the Phase I project of the Integrated Smart Energy Project in Hekou, Tonghua County).

The construction of the project is divided in two phases with a total investment of about RMB 2.5 billion.

2. Sungrow

Sungrow has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with two renowned distributors Power n Sun from the United Arab Emirates and ACO from Egypt at the World Future Energy Summit on January 13. The agreement involves 200 MW of residential, commercial and industrial projects. 

5. Tesla

The Hornsdale Power Reserve built by Tesla is still the world's largest lithium-ion battery, with a capacity of 100MW / 129MWh. And its capacity is still expanding, which may reach 150MW / 194MWh.
