India has targeted raising its renewable-energy capacity to 175 GW by 2022, including 100 GW of PV power, 60 GW of wind power, and 10 GW of hydraulic power.
The targeted capacity quadruples the existing 46.5 GW of renewable-energy capacity, and to attain the target, the Indian government has envisioned various new projects, including floating PV power and offshore wind power.
According to Anand Kumar, an official at the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the total capacity of the ongoing renewable-energy projects is currently at 21.5 GW, with an extra 25 GW of capacity now in the stage of open bidding.
