SPI Energy, a global provider of PV solutions for business, residential, government and utility customers and investors, today announced that it has formed a strategic partnership with General Energy Solutions Inc. (GES), a solar energy company headquartered in Taiwan. Under the partnership agreement, SPI Energy's wholly owned Japanese subsidiary, SPI Solar Japan G.K. (SPI Japan), will provide local technical support and sales services to GES and deliver more than 15MW of project sales in 2016 and 5MW in 2017.

"This agreement marks an exciting milestone for our business in Japan and the beginning of a long-term strategic collaboration with GES," said Xiaofeng Peng, Chairman and CEO of SPI Energy. "SPI Japan has become a market leader in the development, financing, installation, operation and sale of utility-scale and residential solar power projects. As one of SPI Energy's core markets, we are delighted to deepen our presence in Japan and further support the development of the local clean energy industry."

SPI Japan was established in September 2014 to capture the growing demand for solar energy projects in the world's third-largest PV market. In July 2015, the Japanese government confirmed that renewable energy must constitute a significant part of Japan's long-term energy plan, with the goal of 22–24% of Japan's energy sources in 2030 being renewable energy.
