SolarWorld Powers Hong Kong International Airport

The roof of the new airport terminal "Midfield Concourse" of the Hong Kong International Airport is equipped with a 180 kW solar power system of the German solar company SolarWorld. The so-called Midfield Concourse is to be inaugurated early next year. When planning, architect Sir Norman Foster pursued ambitious sustainability goals with the use of solar energy, energy efficiency and water purification.

The project is locally supported and installed from Siemens Hong Kong. About 700 high-performance modules, based on mono-crystalline silicon from the SolarWorld production in Freiberg, Saxony, get installed. The total solar energy generated by the plant is directly used in the terminal buildings for air conditioning and lighting.

"Anyone looking for quality and durability in the solar sector, cannot get away from SolarWorld. We are pleased to now be able to show that even at the International Airport in Hong Kong, "said Dr. Ing. E. h. Frank Asbeck, CEO of SolarWorld. However, this should not obscure the fact that the Chinese solar market is largely closed for Western suppliers. "All the better that we got the contract in this prestigious project."
