Duke Energy to Introduce Energy Saving Solution for Commercial Solar Customers
2015-12-09 18:26

By partnering with commercial energy storage solution provider Green Charge Networks, Duke Energy Renewables unveiled a plan to introduce its commercial solar customers with energy saving products. The new solution will help Duke Energy’s target customers to combine solar and storage for better benefit from the sunlight.

To offer its customers with so-called “solar firming,” a way to smooth the peaks and valleys of a variable energy source, Duke Energy Renewable will cooperate with Green Charge Networks, REC Solar and Phoenix Energy Technologies to provide high quality, reliable and economical power 24/7. Duke Energy Renewable acquired a majority interest in REC Solar and Phoenix Energy Technologies earlier this year.

REC Solar is a solar provider while Phoenix ET is an experienced energy management company. Duke Energy is confident in coming up with a complete and integrated energy saving platform with its partners.

"Energy storage is the ideal complement to help customers get the most out of a sustainable resource, securing their investment through solar firming and lowering energy costs," said Vic Shao, CEO at Green Charge Networks. "By partnering with the largest electric power holding company in the United States and REC Solar, we add momentum to our domestic expansion plans."

With a combination of lithium-ion battery technology and predictive software, Green Charge systems will draw power from the REC Solar system and the grid during off-peak hours, when electricity is inexpensive, and release it during peak hours, when electricity is more expensive. In addition, Green Charge Network’s energy storage platform is a scalable, modular system that monitors facility every second so that the alliance’s customers will be able to get operational data of their generation facilities.

The initial focus will be on Southern California and Hawaiian markets.

With behind-the-meter solar, energy storage and demand management offerings, Duke Energy has created a compelling platform of onsite energy solutions for commercial customers large and small.
