SolarWorld AG has been consistently investing into high efficiency technology. At its site in Freiberg, Germany, the group will upgrade its solar cell production step by step to the PERC technology, reaching a cell capacity of around 400 MW there.
PERC stands for Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell and significantly improves both efficiency and the low-light performance of solar cells. Thus, owners of a solar power system can achieve higher yields than by conventional cells.
SolarWorld has already been using PERC at its sites in Hillsboro, United States, and Arnstadt, Germany, with great success. The group is an industry pioneer of this technology. In 2014, it had the highest PERC production share of all manufacturers worldwide. In early 2015, SolarWorld achieved efficiency of 21.4%, setting a new world record for monocrystalline PERC solar cells.
Dr.-Ing. E. h. Frank Asbeck, CEO of SolarWorld AG: “SolarWorld has always been a technological forerunner in the industry. The international demand for solar power is rapidly growing. With hightech and top-class quality, we will stand out from the competition of solar manufacturers and offer our customers added value.”
