Welspun Energy Pvt. Ltd. (WEPL), India’s leading developer of solar energy projects, has ventured into the solar rooftop segment in a big way. From building large scale ground mounted projects, the EPC company has successfully constructed three projects, cumulative 975kW, in record time.
WEPL had brought in its team of expert engineers to design these projects located in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. Global Tier 1 solar technology has been used in this project for optimum conversion efficiency. The solar projects have been financed through 100% equity infusion, with inflow split in three phase – pre, mid and post construction. The prestigious projects have been set up to meet captive power needs of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur – 192kWp, Ansal University – 100kWp and Medanta Medicity Hospital – 500kWp.
Solar rooftop is a budding business in India. Increasingly institutions are looking to augment their power needs through clean energy. These projects have set benchmarks amongst educational institutions and hospitals on operating sustainably. Energy generated will help lower their thermal energy consumption, thereby reducing operating expenses.
Mr. Vineet Mittal, Managing Director Welspun Energy Pvt. Ltd. said, “The solar rooftop business presents interesting opportunities of growth and is bound to be the next big thing in the solar energy business. It is also heartening to see that more and more institutions are seriously taking accountability towards the environment by opting for clean energy generation.”
The 100 kWp Ansal University project, developed by Ansal Colonisers will be helping nearly 2000 users carry out their day to day activities through clean energy. Approximately 1000 faculty members and students at IIT Kanpur, through the 192 kWp plant will be using solar energy to teach and carry out their experiments. The largest among the three projects, The Medanta Medicity project is built over two extended parking lots that can house over 300 cars at a time.
Through its other EPC initiatives, WEPL is developing a mega 50 MW ground mounted solar project for Maharashtra State Power Generation Co. Ltd (Mahagenco) on a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The company has successfully commissioned 328 MW (DC) capacity of Solar PV projects on a turnkey basis well in advance of stipulated timelines. Currently, mega solar & wind projects are collectively under construction in five states in India. The organization is targeting to develop cumulative 1.75 GW of renewable capacity in next three years.
