EuPD Research, a global market intelligence company focusing on sustainable business, predicts that Germany will install 2.8GW of new PV capacity in 2014.

According PV Tech’s report on the research, installation of solar system under 10kW may increase y-o-y while installations of systems over 1MW may continue declining in 2014. Germany added 7.6GW solar installation in 2012, and the new installation rate declined 73% down to 3.3GW in 2013, data provided by official figures that is released by the federal network authority, Bundesnetzagentur.

Installation outlook toward 2014 is rather pessimistic as mentioned, yet it would still exceed 2.5GW cap proposed by the new government – it may even reach 2.8GW in EuPD’s report.

The founders of developer juwi, Fred Jung and Matthias Willenbacher, said the caps on PV and onshore wind would have repercussions beyond their respective sectors. "The actions outlined in the draft plans to reform the Renewable Energies Act (EEG) are a death knell for the energy transition as a whole," they said in a statement.

Other changes include a charge for self-consumption that the country’s BDI business lobby said could cost 900,000 jobs through increasing the cost of energy.
