Gamesa, a global technology leader in the wind energy industry, will supply the turbines with which Iberdrola will upgrade its Carland Cross wind farm in England, as part of what will be the power company's first wind farm repowering project in the world.  Thanks to this project, the United Kingdom's most veteran wind farm will be updated with new technology to enable it to generate more energy using fewer wind turbines.

Gamesa will deliver and install 10 of its state-of-the-art G80 turbines, each with capacity of 2 MW, which will replace the current 15 turbines, specifically the WD24 produced by Vestas, each with capacity of 0.4 MW.  

Carland Cross, which began operating in 1992, is located 10 kilometres north of Truro in Cornwall in southwest England.

Iberdrola plans to disconnect this wind farm shortly and aims to reconnect it to the grid, following the 30-million-euro repowering project, at the end of this year.

The site's installed capacity, when it reaches 20 MW, will enable the power company to supply renewable energy to more than 11,000 households in England and prevent atmospheric emissions of around 52,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
