Siliken Goes One Step Further in Its Commitment to the Environment Obtaining the Carbon Footprint Certificate
2012-04-24 14:40

Siliken is one of the few PV companies in the world that has achieved the Carbon Footprint Certificate for its SLK60P6L modules in accordance with the PAS 2050:2011 standard. The certificate was awarded by the EQA certification body (European Quality Assurance Spain) and it is based on the calculation of the total direct and indirect GHG emissions from the entire process of manufacturing to handing the SLK60P6L modules to the client. Siliken modules currently emit 213.82 kg of CO2 per manufactured panel.

Committed to the environment, Siliken has applied for this certificate to be able to assess the actual impact of its business on the environment. Using these data, the company will develop measures to reduce the CO2 emissions.  Plans have already been made for 2012 to calculate the reduction in CO2 for each installed module and thus generate clean energy in any geographical area. This way, an actual saving of CO2 emissions can be seen and measures can be defined to improve these figures.

One of Siliken’s priorities is to embed sustainability in its practices and principles by putting effort into minimizing the negative impact on the environment as well as by preventing its activities from contaminating. Most of the company’s plants have currently PV installations on their rooftops, which contributes to saving energy and reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

This new certificate is added to those that Siliken modules have already obtained, such as theTÜV certificate pursuant to the IEC 61701:1995 standard, product certifications in accordance with the EN (IEC) 61215:2005 and EN (IEC) 61730:2007 standards, Security Class A, as well as EN (IEC) 61701:1999 for corrosion resistance in saline environments by TÜV Rheinland and pursuant to the UL 1703 standard by Underwriters Laboratories and Intertek ETL for application worldwide. The company also holds the ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004 certificates.

Siliken modules are used both in stand-alone and grid-connected installations, in parks, on industrial rooftops, in residential installations and integrated in architecture. They reach power of up to 305 Wp with a power tolerance of +3/0% and an efficiency of up to 15.7%. Siliken also manufactures PV modules that are larger than the standard, whose measures may exceed traditional modules by 30%. They are designed for architectural integration, acquiring a translucency of up to 40%.
