ACCIONA Windpower Enters Brazil with a 120 MW Contract for Major Utility CPFL

ACCIONA Windpower, a subsidiary of the ACCIONA Group dedicated to the design, manufacture and sale of wind turbines, has won its first contract in Brazil. The company will supply, install and maintain forty 3-MW wind turbines for a 120 MW wind farm owned by CPFL Renováveis, a subsidiary of Brazilian utility CPFL Group. The Atlântica wind farm is located in Rio Grande do Sul, the southernmost state in Brazil.

The installation, situated in Palmares do Sul, will consist of forty AW116/3000 wind turbines, ACCIONA Windpower's most advanced machine. Each one has a capacity of 3 MW and a rotor diameter of 116 meters, mounted on a 120-meter-high concrete tower. The contract covers the supply and field installation of the turbines as well as the operation and maintenance of the wind park for a period of 15 years

With this agreement, ACCIONA is positioning itself in a wind powe rmarket of great potential with a large-scale project and with its most powerful commercial wind turbine.

"The contract with CPFL Renováveis opens up a new market of clear commercial interest to ACCIONA Windpower," says ACCIONA Windpower CEO Pedro Ruiz. "We are entering Brazil with a strong customer who is one of the country's leading wind power operators."

CPFL Renováveis is the renewable enery company of CPFL Energia, the largest private utility in Brasil. It operates in power Generation, distribution, trading and services.

ACCIONA Windpower plans to construct a wind power component assembly plant in Brazil.
