2011-12-08 15:25

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (Nissan) and Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd. (DFL), Nissan's joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Group, delivered 15 units of the 100% electric Nissan LEAF to the Guangzhou Municipal Government. This was done based on the zero emission partnership which was signed between the Guangzhou Municipal Government, DFL, and Nissan on November 22, 2009.

Today, the delivery ceremony for the electric vehicles was held at the Huadu New Arena, located near the head office of Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company (Dongfeng Nissan), a passenger vehicle business unit of DFL.

"We are very proud and pleased to deliver 15 Nissan LEAFs to the Guangzhou Municipal Government today. Through the pilot program, we will be working with the city of Guangzhou on a variety of joint activities aimed at contributing to the establishment of an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly city," said Fumiaki Matsumoto, president of Dongfeng Nissan, at the ceremony.

Dongfeng Nissan, on behalf of Nissan and DFL, will support this pilot program to be implemented mainly in the area of Huadu district in Guangzhou city. Another focus of the program is to plan for the full-fledged rollout of EVs in the Chinese market.

Pilot Program Overview

Nissan provided the Guangzhou Municipal Government with two sets of quick chargers at the timing of the delivery of the Nissan LEAFs. The government has already completed building 15 sets of regular chargers throughout the city. Demonstrations using Nissan LEAF will be conducted by using these charging facilities.

Nissan, together with its alliance partner Renault, has entered into more than 100 partnerships with national and local governments and companies worldwide to realize a low-carbon society. In addition to a Pilot Program in Wuhan which was announced and commenced November 17, 2011, Nissan hopes that the development of this Pilot Program with the city of Guangzhou will be a major step in creating a platform for a full EV rollout across China.

Additionally, DFL has announced plans to produce and sell an EV from VENUCIA, its new local brand in China, by 2015 through Dongfeng Nissan.
