Nordex Supplies 14 Turbines for UK Wind Farms
2011-11-04 15:12

Nordex has secured a 35 megawatt order from the UK. As of August next year, the global wind turbine manufacturer is to supply 14 machines from the N90/2500 series for the Welsh “Pant-y-Wal” and “Fforch Nest” projects. The customer is Pennant Walters, a subsidiary of the Walters Group, which develops wind farms in Wales. In addition to this, Pennant Walters has signed a contract for ten years of Premium turbine service.

The projects are to go live on to the grid in the rugged uplands of South Wales. Here, the 14 turbines in the 2.5 megawatt power class will supply around 118 gigawatt hours of electricity a year, sufficient to supply around 45,000 households with clean electricity.

“Pennant Walters wants to help the British government meet its targets for renewable energy. We hope that this first joint wind farms will form the foundation for a good partnership which we can follow up when our customer puts the next projects out for tender,” says Nordex COO Sales & Marketing Lars Bondo Krogsgaard. For Nordex this is the third major order from the UK in this financial year: the company currently has order receipts of 67 turbines with a total of 116 MW in this market taking the total UK projects to around 800 MW. "This makes the UK one of the principal mainstays of our new business in 2011,” adds Mr. Krogsgaard.
