Vestas has secured a service-contract extension for seven years from Enbridge for the 190-MW Enbridge Ontario Wind Project near Kincardine, Ontario.

Installed in September 2006 and Canada’s second-largest wind power plant, the site includes 115 V82-1.65 MW wind turbines, which generate enough electricity to power about 57,000 homes in Ontario.

“We are excited to continue our partnership with Enbridge, one of Canada’s leading energy-delivery companies,”said Martha Wyrsch, President of Vestas-Canadian Wind Technology, Inc. “This service contract also ensures long-term job stability for 14 Ontarians who provide maintenance for these turbines.”

Under the agreements, Vestas will provide a full range of services to maximize the turbines’ energy production. The services consist of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, replacement of major components and spare parts, and a surveillance system called VestasOnline®, which allows Vestas to monitor and remotely control the turbines.

Vestas has supplied 1,021 turbines to Canada totaling 1,683 MW of installed capacity as of Dec. 31, 2010.
